Helping the Needy in Haiti

Today Haitians gathered in makeshift churches to mark the second anniversary of the devastating 2010 earthquake.

The disaster killed 316,000 people and displaced 1.5 million in this impoverished country of 10 million people. More than 500,000 are still in temporary settlement camps.

Recently, we at the The Tabernacle of The Lord with the help of WVCC Missions, felt led to assist a family in need. We provided a tent for the family as they were living in a makeshift shelter and supplied food and clothing.

And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

Should I go to church?

Some Christians feel they can survive apart from a church. However, when you become a Christian, you are called into a relationship with God. Hebrews 10:25 makes it clear that we enter a fellowship that goes two ways: with God and with other Christians. You can't belong to a "global church" and have no link to a local church.

January 23, 1941 - August 16, 2011

Loving Son, Brother and Uncle, Cline Eugene Burrows “JD" (Jack of Diamonds), 70, of Melbourne Florida, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 16 2011.

He was born January 23 1941, in Point Pleasant West Virginia, Son of the late William M. and Eddrie L. Burrows.

Cline was the Resident Council President at Avante in Melbourne Florida . He was an active volunteer for the Radio Emergency Associated Communications Team “REACT” for many years where he made many lifelong friendships.

He was also a Little League baseball coach for the American Legion for a number of years.

Cline loved telling stories of times throughout his life, especially ones about growing up in West Virginia.

Cline enjoyed fishing, jigsaw puzzles, CB radio, horseshoes, softball and gardening.

Clines greatest joy and love was his family, he was all of the kids favorite Uncle. Cline had such a generous heart; there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for you.

He had an amazing sense of humor. He was always making those he knew and loved laugh.

Cline was preceded in death by three brothers, Lawrence, William and Walter Burrows.

Surviving are brothers; Mr. Donald (Debbie) Burrows of Palm Bay, Florida, Mr. Leonard (Lucielle) Burrows of Bellview, Florida, Mr. Leroy (Irene) Burrows of Melbourne, Florida, Mr. Alvin (Paula) Burrows of Palm Bay, Florida,., Mr. Rondall (Karri) Burrows of Palm Bay, Florida, Mr. Roger (Pat) Burrows of Palm Bay, Florida; sisters, Mrs. Marcelene (Robert) Parsons of Palm Bay, Florida, Mrs. Linda (Charles) Gibson of Westminster, South Carolina, Mrs.Claralene Combs of Charleston, West Virginia; and many, many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Information

Calling hours will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., with service starting at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at Pentecostal Lighthouse Church, 2350 West New Haven Avenue, West Melbourne, Florida 32904. With Officiating Minister, Pastor Luke Gibson.

and sweep It on to the Coming of the Lord"

I remember very vividly when I first was called to the ministry. I owe some respects to several men of God who gave me the opportunity to minister in their pulpit. They didn't have to, but being pastors and wanting to help other young men in the ministry they opened the door for me to express what I believed was a calling in my life. So at the age of 13 years old I preached for the first time in Ft. Pierce, Florida for a pastor there, and from there the Lord has led me these past 22 years in full-time ministry.

The time has come that I feel led to allow some young man to express the same. I have been praying for several years and asking the Lord where is the next generation that will come and take the Word of God and carry the Message of Christ to the Coming of the Lord. I have watched several young men in my own congregation and watched their lives and saw how they sense the Holy Spirit and the calling of God upon their lives as well. I want to be faithful to them, as ministers of God were faithful to me.

I have decided that once a month I would like to have a Youth Service. A service that is directed to the Young people and also to give some of these young men the opportunity to use and express the calling of God in their lives. Everybody has to start somewhere just as any minister of the Gospel has to, and there's nothing better than having those who have traveled the way there to assist and help you as you get started.

So January 28, 2011, which is Friday night, we have a young man who has never ministered before who will be speaking for us. This is his first time to stand behind the sacred desk and deliver what he believes the Lord is laying upon his heart. This young man is Bruce Whitehead (Bruster), who is also my nephew.

Our service will be at 7pm at The Tabernacle of the Lord. You are invited to come and hear him, but mostly I ask that you pray for him that God will help him and bless him.

Pray for our youth that the Lord Jesus Christ will continue to have His way in their lives!

On Saturday morning, our precious Bro. Leonard took his final breath singing "I love Him" and went to his heavenly home. He was a strong soldier of faith and a trophy of God's Grace.

DECEMBER 14,1942 – SEPTEMBER 18,2010

PENDERGRASS, GA – Leonard Raymond Carver, age 67, of 205 Brumbalow Road, husband of Annette Carver, died Saturday, September, 18, 2010, at his residence.

Born in Clinton, IN, he was a son of the late John Ampsey Carver and Elsie Cauffman Carver. He was the owner of Southern Custom Painting and a member of Tabernacle of the Lord.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters: Yvonne Smith, of Acworth GA, and Christy Flowers of Pendergrass, GA, sons: Leonard “Lenny” Carver, of Pendergrass, GA, Jason Carver, of Atlanta, GA, and Jeremy Carver, Bethlehem, GA, fourteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, sisters: Carol Hudson, of Conyers, GA, and Lucille Proffer, of Athens, Ga.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Debbie Carver, brother, Gerald Carver, sisters: Laura Burkhart and Crescentia Carver.

The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at the Tabernacle of the Lord, Townville, SC, conducted by Reverend Luke Gibson. Interment will follow at Heritage Memorial Gardens, in Westminster, SC.

The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday, September 21, 2010.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tabernacle of the Lord, 12950 West Oak Highway, Townville, SC 29689.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our brother Richard Chasteen on Thursday, June 24. He was truly one of a kind and we look forward to meeting him again.

"And remember, when you die and that soul leaves you, it never changes. No, sir. Death doesn't change the soul. It changes its dwelling place , but it's still the same soul.

Unless you're born again and have eternal life (the Greek word "Zoe" there means "God's own life" in you) you'll perish. But where God's life is in you, you can no more perish than God can perish (That's right.) because you are a son, an offspring of God, and have Eternal Life. Then when God is in you, then He lives His own Life through you."

ANDERSON- Fred Richard “Rick” Chasteen, 53, of 125 Old Emerson Bridge Rd., died Thursday, June 24, 2010 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born January 6, 1957 in Anderson he was the son of Mary Jane Coffee and the late Fred Chasteen. He was a carpenter and a member of The Tabernacle of the Lord.

Surviving are his son, Shannon Chasteen and his wife, Hannah of Abbeville; daughter, Hope Arnold and her husband, Jonathan of Anderson; stepson, Tracy Addison and his wife, Sharon of Toccoa, GA; mother and step-father, Jane and David Coffee of Anderson; step-mother, Carolyn Chasteen of Anderson; grandchildren: Brent and Ty Chasteen, Gracie Pierce, Gage and Brayden Arnold, Amber Addison Irvin and Cody Addison; sister, Tina Chasteen of Lavonia and brother, Terry Chasteen of Anderson. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Dakota Blume; stepson, Jody Addison and sister, Tonya Tamara Chasteen.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Sunday, June 27 at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel with Brother Luke Gibson, Rev. Jerry Gray and Rev. Roy Ethridge officiating. Interment will be in New Silver Brook Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 PM Saturday at the mortuary.

The family will be at the home of his mother, Jane Coffee, 73 Hidden Cove Lane, Iva.

Born in Anderson, SC, on September 9, 1959, he was a son of Jack & Helen Royster Davis. Mr. Davis is the owner of Roy D. Davis Siding, Inc. He was a member of Tabernacle of the Lord, Townville, SC.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by children: Misty Burdette of Anderson, Adam Dwayne Davis of the home, and Melissa Nicole Davis of the home; brothers: Terry & Gary Davis, both of Iva; sisters: Donna Davis & Tracy Rudolph, both of Anderson.

The Funeral Service will be held at 4 pm on Monday, March 8, 2010, in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home conducted by the Reverend Luke Gibson. Interment will follow in Anderson Memorial Gardens.

The family is at the home of Kevin & Misty Burdette, 102 Pristine Drive, Anderson, and will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:30 pm until 3:30 pm, prior to the funeral service.

Prayer Request for the Castañeda family

Bro. Luke Gibson Sr., and the congregation of the Tabernacle of the Lord wishes to extent their deepest sympathies to the Castañeda family on the loss of Bro. Valdo, who passed away this afternoon in Durango, Mexico.

Almost a year ago we requested prayer for the family on the loss of Jose Castañeda who died in a car accident. Bro. Valdo was in the vehicle and survived that accident, but a year later he has been called home.

Please remember in prayer his wife, children, Bro. Saul, Bro. Santos and all the other family, friends and believers who are affected by this loss. The funeral will be held tomorrow, January 28, 2010.

UPDATED: Prayer Request for Bro. Bob Willard's father

Many of you received our email yesterday requesting prayer for Bro. Bob Willard's father who had suffered a possible stroke:

1st update (yesterday afternoon)

I just recieved a call from a precious friend of mine from Arizona(Bro. Bob Willard) who asked for me
to remember his father in prayer, who is now being taken to the hospital and it looks like may be having a stroke.
I am asking for you to please join with me in prayer for Bro. Bob's father.
I understand the pain of a parent being in such a serious condition.
Please join with me in prayer for our God to intervene for his father.
Thank you in advance for you burden and concern for him. God Bless you all!

2nd update (this morning):

I want to thank you all for your prayers. Last night I received a call from Bro. Bob informing me that the
stroke did not affect his father in any way. They did find that he does have a 75% blockage in his
main artery (neck) that goes to his brain. They will be doing some kind of surgery for that (possibly a stent) today.
Again, thank you all for your prayers and please continue to remember him.

Final Update (this evening):

I wanted to write and give you a final update and thank you all once again for your prayers.
A few moments ago I received a call from Bro. Bob Willard at the hospital in California with his father.
He called me and said six doctors were just in his father's room and they all said to him and the family,
"We apologize but we do not have an answer to why this has happened, but we cannot find anything
wrong with you." They said they wanted to keep him overnight for observation but again apologized
for not having an answer but they cannot find anything wrong. Bro. Bob said, "Bro. Luke I think I was
the only one in the room that understood that when God does something it doesn't have to be explained."
Again, thank you all for your prayers. I am once again reminded of what Jesus said in John 14:14
"If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it". God Bless you all!

Easter Meetings in Cuautitlan Izcalli, México

We had another great time in the Lord while we were in Mexico for Easter services. We always consider it a blessing and a privledge to be among the Bride of Christ in Mexico. There were great results again this year, on Sunday 11 believers were baptized in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ. I trust that the Lord will bless Bro. Francisco and his congregation for all their efforts to make these meetings a success. I also pray the Lord will bless the translators, Bro. Adolfo Mata from Texas and Bro. Albert from Cuautitlan Izcalli, who poured their hearts into translating from English to Spanish and vice versa. May God bless each of you for your prayers and may He continue to be with the congregations and the pastors that supported the meeting in Mexico.

His doctor has said he has done all he can do and it will take a miracle of God now to preserve Bro. Leonard's life. Another specialist will see Bro. Leonard on Thursday and he and the other doctors will decide if there are any other procedures they can do.

We ask that you pray that they along with the family, will make the right decisions. We believe that our God is still in full control and He can do more than we can even ask or desire.
